Chilcote-Karch Wedding Ceremony Event of Last Sunday

Simplicity marked the wedding vows the past Sunday of Miss Vivian Chilcote, instructor in the Lincoln school here, and Mr. George Karch of Bartlesville. The ceremony was read in the afternoon at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Chilcote of Edmond with the Reverend Campbell, pastor of the First Christian church in that city officiating.

The bride wore a frock pf pale blue crepe and a corsage of pink rosebuds. The couple were unattended.

Those witnessing the ceremony were members of the family, a fe friends, and three Poncans, the Misses Inez Crossfield, Flora Cacy and Sceva Reeves.

The bride is a graduate of the Central State Teachers' college at Edmond and has been on the faculty of the Lincoln school here the past three years. She was instructor of the third grade.

Mr. Karch is a graduate of the University of Iowa and has been in Bartlesville as instructor for the Junior college and high school. He is to do graduate work at the University of Iowa this summer, working on his Masters' degree, and will resume his work in Bartlesville in September where the couple will establish a home.

Mr. and Mrs. Karch plan to spend a week in Edmond with Mrs. Karch's parents and will leave from there June 5 to spend the summer at Iowa City.

George P. Karch

George Park Karch, 88, of San Luis Obispo, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1988, in a San Luis Obispo hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Los Osos Valley Memorial Park Chapel. The Rev. Lanny Arrowsmith will officiate. Reid Chapel in San Luis Obispo is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Karch was born April 21, 1899, near Onawa, Iowa. He is the son of Fred Karch of Hopkinton, Iowa, and Matilda Karch of Vasterlosa, Ostergotland, Sweden.

He was a teacher for 55 years, starting his career in 1918. He attended Iowa State University and taught physics during his junior year in an experimental high school. After graduation, he taught at a high school near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He moved to Bartlesville, Okla., where he taught in the high school and junior college. He was also a Boy Scout leader for 30 years.

Mr. Karch married Vivian Chilcote in 1933. During World War II, he was commissioned a lieutenant commander in the Navy and taught anti-submarine warfare, after which he returned to Bartlesvilles. After 31 years of teaching, he retired and moved to San Luis Obispo in 1958

Mr. Karch taught physics for seven years at Cal Poly and continued teaching part time for another 17 years. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, and an infant son.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian Karch of San Luis Obispo; and two sons, Ed Karch of Virginia and Olin Karch of Kansas.

Vivian Karch

Vivian Zelma Karch, 96, of Emporia, Kan., died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at a rehabilitation center in Emporia. Cremation has taken place; no services are planned.

Mrs. Karch was born Feb. 27, 1904, in McLoud, Oklahoma Territory, to Luther David and Lydia Alice (Buckley) Chilcote. She married George Karch at Edmond, Okla., on May 21, 1933. She was a teacher for 21 years, retiring in 1966. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emporia.

She is survived by two sons, Olin Karch, of Emporia, Kan., and Ed Karch of Fairfax County, Va.; a brother, Kenneth D. Chilcote of Yukon, Okla.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1988; her parents; and a sister, Lexie Chilcote.
