Edward Krueger, 71, oldest automobile dealer in Oshkosh, passed away at Mercy hospital at about 5 o'clock Monday afternoon as the result of pneumonia, which complicated illness extending over a period of several months. While he had been confined to his home since August and to his bed for several weeks his condition did not become critical until Saturday night and he was taken to the hospital Sunday.
Mr. Krueger was born April 16, 1868 in Germany and came to America with his parents when he was a young child. The family settled in Waukesha county where he grew to young manhood, after attending schools at Waukesha and Milwaukee. He came to Oshkosh in 1904 and opened the first commercial garage in this city in the old Hale building, now the site of the Gibson Tire and Repair Company, 235 Main street, under the name the Krueger Automobile Company.
Later he was associated at various times with W. H. Hathaway, Dr. J. A. Crum and F. S. Hoaglin, with garages on Main, Merritt and State streets. The building now occupied by the F. S. Hoaglin Auto Company, of which Mr. Krueger was vice president and later was purchased and operated by him. Still later he operated a garage at 62 State street, now that of the Anderson Motor Company. In his business career, he handled various makes of automobiles but for more than 20 years he had been the representative of the Packard Automobile Company until his health failed several months ago.
Mr. Krueger was at one time president of the stat automobile dealers association. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers, and of the Masonic order, being affiliated with the lodge at Pewaukee. He was one of the early members of the Oshkosh Kiwanis club and attended its meetings for many years. He also belonged for several years to the Oshkosh lodge of Elks.
He was married Oct. 22, 1907 to Miss Ruby Sutherland at Brodhead, Wis., and the family home has been at 12 Frederick avenue for more than 30 years. Besides Mrs. Krueger, who was taken ill the latter part of last week, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Marion Konlande, wife of Kenneth J. Konlande, and two grandchildren, James Edward and Kenneth Konlande Jr., all of New York City. There is also a twin brother, William Krueger of Milwaukee, and two sisters, Mrs. William Hughes and Mrs. Richard Jones, both of Waukesha.
Funeral arrangements will not be completed until the arrival of Mrs. Konlande from New York.

Mrs. Ruby Krueger, 74, of 148 Scott St., died today at 9 a.m. at Mercy Hospital. She had been ill for the past year.
Daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Arick Sutherland, she was born March 6, 1882 in Sylvester, Wis. She was married in Brodhead, Wis., on Oct. 22, 1907, to Edward Krueger, who preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1941. She had lived most of her life in Oshkosh.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Marian Pasqualle, Huntington Station, N.Y.; two brothers, Dr. Justus Sutherland, Oshkosh, and Louis A. Sutherland, Albany, Wis.; two sisters, Mrs. Nell Provost, Oshkosh, and Mrs. Lydia Stephenson, Albany, Wis.; two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The remains have been taken to Konrad Funeral Home, where funeral arrangements will be announced later.
