Dr. Justus Sutherland, 83, of 1344 Ontario St., retired eye, ear, nose and throat specialist, died Sunday at 11:35 p.m. at Mercy Hospital, following an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 15, 1875, in Sylvester, Wis., Green County, son of the late Dr. Arick and Charlotte Sutherland. He was married to Miss Bessie Wilkinson in Brodhead, Wis., in 1904.
A 1900 graduate of Marquette University Medical School, he practiced in Brodhead from 1900 to 1923. He came to Oshkosh in 1923 and continued his practice until retiring in 1956.
Dr. Sutherland served overseas with the Army Medical Corps in World War I as a first lieutenant, and as a staff member at Veterans Hospital, Wood, in World War II.
He was a past worshipful master of Bicknell Lodge 94 of Masons, Brodhead, and former member of Oshkosh Centennial Lodge 205.
Surviving are his wife, Bessie; two daughters, Mrs. Phillip LaMay, Oshkosh, and Mrs. John Q. Adams, Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Nell Provost, Maumee, O., and Mrs. Byron Stephenson, Albany Wis.; two grandsons and a number of nieces and nephews. One brother, Louis, preceded him in death in 1958, and one other brother, Hyland, and one sister, Mrs. Edward Krueger.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Konrad Funeral Home, with the Rev. James A. Daum, pastor of First United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from Tuesday at 2 p.m. until the hour of services.

Mrs. Bessie Sutherland, 96, of 1344 Ontario St., Oshkosh, died at 10 p.m. Thursday at Omro Care Center, where she had been residing for a short time.
The daughter of William and Hanna Wilkinson was born Feb. 26, 1893, in Mineral Point. She was married to Justus Sutherland April 27, 1904, in Brodhead. He preceded her in death July 26, 1959.
Mrs. Sutherland was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and Chapter 83 of the Order of Eastern Star in Brodhead, where she was a past worthy matron.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Le May, Oshkosh, and Mrs. John (Mary) Adams, Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Grace Dedrick and Mrs. Wilbert (Esther) Murphy, both of Brodhead; two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Seefeld Church Avenue Chapel, the Rev. Paul Martin officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
There will be no visitation and the casket will remain closed.
A memorial has been established.
