Harriet Martin

ROUNDUP — Harriet Martin at one time was a cook on a ranch and later worked for the Vienna Cafe in Roundup.

Mrs. Martin, 80, died Tuesday in Roundup Memorial Hospital.

Born in Bloomer, Wis., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Lent, she married Walter Martin on June 4, 1923, in Melstone. They moved to Roundup from Melstone 52 years ago. She liked to knit and crochet. She is a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Robert Martin of Whitefish and Ron Martin of Roundup; four daughters, Mrs. Wilbur (Betty) Goffena of Roundup, Mrs. Martin (Donna) Smith of Roundup, Mrs. Jerome (Margaret) Goffena of Roundup, and Mrs. Jim (Arlyne) Barnett of Lynnwood, Wash; a brother, Jim Carlin of Pocatello, Idaho; 32 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Wier Chapel with burial in Roundup Cemetery.

Walter Leroy Martin

ROUNDUP — Walter Leroy Martin worked for the Chicago-Milwaukee Railroad in the Melstone-Roundup area until retiring. He was an avid rockhound, arrowhead and Indian artifact collector and had extensive collections. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Mr. Martin, 86, died Friday in Roundup Memorial Nursing Home.

He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, a son of Walter and Emily Martin. He grew up in the Ottumwa area and moved to Montana with his father at the age of 14, settling in the Vananda area. He married Harriet Lent on June 4, 1923, in Melstone. She died in 1984.

Survivors include two sons, Robert of Whitefish and Ron of Roundup; four daughters, Mrs. Wilbur (Betty) Goffena, Mrs. Jerome (Margaret) Goffena and Mrs. Martin (Donna) Smith, all of Roundup, and Mrs. Jim (Arlyne) Barnett of Everett, Wash.; three brothers, Donald of Canton, S.D., Russell of Miles City and Robert of Mobridge, S.D.; a sister, Geneieve Jones of Banning, Calif; 30 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Wier Chapel with burial in the New Roundup Cemetery.
