RICHMOND, Ind. — Charles W. McGuire, age 81, of Richmond, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at Reid Hospital.
He was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Richmond to Whitney S. and Juliet Nusbaum McGuire. Charlie was a graduate of Richmond High School. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Charlie was former vice president of Dille & McGuire Lawn Mower Manufacturing Co. and past board member of the YMCA. He was a member of the Earlham Cemetery Board since 1960, serving as vice president from 1961 to 1992 and president from 1992 to present.
Charlie was an active member of the Wayne County Historical Museum for over 50 years. He served as director of the museum from 1972 to 1973 and as a member of the board from 1957 to 1990.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sherry Ripberger McGuire; son, Richard W. McGuire and wife Sarah of West Virginia; daughter, Julie M. Beckwith and husband Walt of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Cindy Sparkman of Ohio, Emily Casto and husband Brian of Washington, D.C., Ann Beckwith of North Carolina and Matthew McGuire of North Carolina; three great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Georgeson and husband Pete of Florida; nieces, nephews, cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service for Charles W. McGuire will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor David Layman officiating. A private burial will be held at a later time. Doan & Mills Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. 10th St., Richmond, IN 47374.
