APPLE VALLEY — "The show must go on," one of the oldest dictums of the stage, is one that Larry Parsons takes stock in.
One week ago today, after three months of rehearsals, he once more picked up his bugle and pith helmet, blackened his moustache and planted the Teddy Roosevelt pince-nez on his nose.
Then he stepped before Desert Players first nights to regale the audience in "Arsenic and Old Lace." He rocked them with laughter.
Parson, a veteran real estate salesman, acted in every play at Manual Arts High (Los Angeles) before graduating in 1916. He got into radio work and taught microphone technique and radio production six years for Los Angeles Board of Education.
He appeared regularly on "California Caravan" and other shows. During World War II, he appeared in USO shows within 300 miles of L.A.
He's been active in the Desert Players four years, both acting and directing.
What few persons in the audience knew Friday night — and in fact, what most members of the cast were unaware of until Saturday night's final curtain — was that Parson's father, Houston D. Parsons, approaching 92, had died Friday morning.
Parsons returned from Los Angeles a scant two hours before curtain went up.
Funeral services were held Monday.
