L. M. Rowe Dies at Sturgis

LaOra M. Rowe, 80, prominent resident of LaGrange virtually all his life, died early Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter C. Spangenberg at Sturgis.

He was a former postmaster, school teacher and druggist in LaGrange. In his later years he engaged in real estate retiring because of ill health 10 years ago. Mr. Rowe was the oldest member of the LaGrange County Bar Association. He practiced law only in relation to his own business interests.

Mr. Rowe was born in Preble County, Ohio, August 15, 1858, son of Milton and Caroline Dorsey Rowe. When he was three years of age, the family moved to LaGrange county. After attending a normal school at Goshen, Mr. Rowe taught school in the LaGrange public schools. He then was in the drug business. After serving as LaGrange postmaster for two years, Mr. Rowe engaged in the insurance business for many years.

He was married on October 12, 1881, to Miss Anna Ballou, LaGrange, ,sister of the late Judge O. L. Ballou. Mrs. Rowe died 14 years ago.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Spangenberg of Sturgis and Mrs. R. E. Zeigler of Des Moines, Ia; one granddaughter, Miss Beverly J. Spangenburg, Sturgis; three brothers, Josiah Rose of Topeka, Charles of Valentine, and Howard of Enterprise, Oregon; and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Hermann of LaGrande, Oregon.

Funeral services were held Monday at LaGrange, with burial in Greenwood cemetery.
