Newhall, Edward King Sr., 87, passed away on November 25, 2008 suddenly and unexpectedly after a hemorrhagic stroke. He was in the hospital due to a fall. Born in Galena, Illinois on December 3, 1920, he moved with his family who settled at Arcadia on the outskirts of Phoenix in 1928. He attended Phoenix Union High School and the University of Arizona. He married Margaret Rudderow in 1942. He served in the Army in WWII and received a bronze star and a purple heart. After the war, he founded Newhall Brother's Heating and Air-conditioning. Later, he became a real estate broker and founded a real estate-mortgage business, Banker's Guaranty Mortgage Company. His interest in civic affairs led him to edit the Phoenix Thunderbird, a weekly newspaper. Later, he became a founding member and director of the East Camelback Property Homeowner's Association. He also served as a director of the Arcadia Water Company, as did his father, H.G. Newhall. Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Margaret Rudderow Newhall, their daughter, Gayle Newhall, son Edward King Newhall, Jr. and his wife Lynn Newhall, daughter Linda Newhall Starkweather and her husband Ned Kelly; grandchildren Sampson Starkweather, Emily Tinervin, Josh Kelly, and Zoe Kelly-Olmos; and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Anthony Newhall, as well as by his parents, sister and brother.

Newhall, Margaret Rudderrow, 87, passed away on October 18, 2009. It was a peaceful passing in the beauty of her home, surrounded by loved ones. She died of complications from an ischemic stroke suffered four days earlier. Born in Phoenix on September 22, 1922, she was a life-long resident. She graduated from Monroe Elementary School, North High School and Phoenix College (1942) where she majored in classical music and piano. She was a member of Kappa Delta Kappa, sub-deb club and Theta Chi Delta sorority. Upon graduation, she marred Edward King Newhall, and took a job in the defense industry at Thorne Engineering during the war years. Later, she was a stay-at-home mom with 4 children. She led a Girl Scout troop, played the piano, and maintained a keen interest in horticulture. When here children were grown, she became an active member of the Washington Garden Club, the Modern Study Club, and with her husband, operated a popular bed and breakfast from their family home on the Sonoran Desert, nestled at the foot of Camelback Mountain. She will be remembered for her determination, exuberance for life, and adventurous spirit. She was the life of every party. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Gayle Newhall, son Edward King Newhall, Jr. and his wife Lynn Newhall, daughter Linda Newhall Starkweather and her husband Ned Kelly; grandchildren Sampson Starkweather, Emily Tinervin, Josh Kelly, and Zoe Kelly-Olmos; and 2 great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death by 11 months, and her son, Thomas Anthony (Tony) Newhall by 22 years.
