William A. "Bill" Ruggles

William A. "Bill" Ruggles, 74, of 525 S. Michigan St., Plymouth, died following an illness at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home on Sunday, April 14 at 3:50 p.m.

On September 17, 1921 he was born to Cliffe M. and Ruth E. (Thompson) Ruggles in Plymouth. He was a resident of Plymouth his entire life.

He married Betty J. Wiegand on April 11, 1943 at the First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth where he was an elder and lifetime member.

His wife Betty survives him along with a son, James M. and Beverly Ruggles of Plymouth and a daughter, Ann M. and Randy Bowser also of Plymouth. Three grandchildren survive, Jimmy Ruggles, Emily Bowser, and Eileen Bowser, all of Plymouth. He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia C. Tanner.

In 1939 he graduated from Plymouth High School where he was active in all sports. He continued as a Pilgrim sports fan through the years. He attended the Indiana School of Pharmacy until the decline of his father's health.

He owned and operated the Model Pharmacy in Plymouth which was begun by his father in 1914. Assisted by his wife, Betty, he operated the store from 1955 until 1975 when they sold the store. He was then employed by Buchtel True Value Hardware and the Plymouth School Corporation as a bus driver and school lunch transporter. He retired in 1989.

For a period of time he raised Appaloosa and Quarter horses and was a charter member of the Marshall County Sheriff's Posse. He was an avid sportsman who loved to fish and hunt.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 18 at the First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth at 1:30 p.m. Calling will be a the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17. The Rev. Robert Martin will officiate.

Cremation will take place and interment will be at the New Oakhill Cemetery in Plymouth.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth.
