Harriette Schlager

Mrs. Harriette Schlager, 84, of Ontario and formerly of Lompoc, passed away Oct. 12, 2001 after a brief battle with cancer.

Mrs. Schlager was born July 10, 1917, in Chicago, Ill., to Elmer and Julia Hills. She moved to Pasadena as a child and graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1834. She attended Pasadena City College and graduated in 1936. On May 2, 1942 Harriette married Herman E. Schlager in Yuma, Arizona.

They lived for 3 years in Japan until the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, after the war, they settled in Lompoc.

In 1990, Herman and Harriette moved to Ontario, Ore., to be near their four grandchildren.

Harriette was a member of two bridge clubs. She loved to travel and had been on several cruises in her later years to Alaska, Mexico, the Panama Canal and the Caribbean.

She is survived by a brother, Robert Hills, of Wilmington, N.C.; daughter, Barbara Schlager, of Santa Cruz; son, Bill, of Fruitland, Idaho; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, and daughter, Wilma.
