Miss Bertha Scott left Monday morning for Portland, accompanied by her sister Miss Scott, where the wedding of Miss Bertha to Dr. C. A. Johnson of Tacoma, Wash., took place yesterday noon. After a short wedding journey to Vancouver, B. C., Seattle and other points. Dr. and Mrs. Johnson will be at home in their elegant quarters, which are all ready for housekeeping, after October 10. Dr. Johnson is a graduate of Ohio University, a registered pharmacist and a young man of sterling qualities. The bride has made her home in Emmett the past two years and has hosts of friends who wish her much happiness all through life.

Meat Inspection Official Dies

Dr. Carl A. Johnston, 69, who retired three years ago after serving 42 years with the federal meat inspection service, died Thursday morning in a local hospital.

At the time of his retirement Dr. Johnson, recognized as a leader in his line of work, was inspector in charge of the government meat and livestock work at the Tacoma plant of the Carstens Packing company. Previously he had seen service in a number of midwest and western meat packing centers and also had served in the livestock quarantine service.

Dr. Johnston was graduated from Ohio State university in 1904 and immediately entered civil service. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, the American Veterinary Medical association, Woodmen of the World and the Allenmore Golf club.

The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. Johnston of Akron, O., Dr. Johnston was married in 1908 in Portland, Ore., to Miss Bertha L. Scott of Blackfoot, Idaho. He first came to Tacoma in 1908, remaining for nine years, and returned 17 years ago.

He is survived by his wife at the home, 1236 So. Ainsworth Ave.; three sisters, Mrs. Charles Canfield of Welsh, La., Mrs. William Reid of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. Pearl Hoover of Sawyerwood, O., and two brothers, James Johnston of Kill Buck, O., and Wayne Johnston of Big Prairie, O.

Announcement of the services will be made by the Buckley-King company.

Death Claims Mrs. Johnston

Mrs. Bertha Lillian Johnston, wife of the late Dr. Carl A. Johnson, retired U. S. government meat inspector, died Friday morning in a local hospital.

Born in Iola, Kan., Mrs. Johnston received her education in Kansas schools, graduating from the Kansas State Normal School. Then she went to Idaho to teach in the public schools at Blackfoot. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and for 43 years had been affiliated with Eureka Rebekah Lodge No. 1 in which she was a past noble grand and had been awarded the Decoration of Chivalry. She was also a member of the Neighbors of Woodcraft.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Albert Kaufman of Boise, two nieces, Mrs. August E. Duarte of Centerville, Calif., and Miss Margaret Kaufman of Boise; and two nephews, Albert and Harold Kaufman of Boise.

Services will be announced by the Buckley-King Co.
