Julia Francis LeVan entered into eternal rest on November 2, 2010. Julia, or "JuJu" celebrated her 87th birthday on October 23, 87 wonderful years since the first in 1923. Julia was born to Richard and Margot Scott in Denver, Colorado. Her older sister, Louise, was there to greet her at their home. Julia graduated primary and secondary schools in the Denver area. As a child in the Rocky Mountains, Julia spent many days exploring and learning there in her early years. A member of the local hiking club, Julia climbed Pikes Peak several times. It was there among the cathedral spaces that Julia felt the presence of God and was touched by the Holy Spirit, a journey that she began then and the path she follows today. Upon graduating high school in Denver, Julia moved to the Pacific Northwest to attend the University of Washington in Seattle. She majored in Chemistry and minored in Sociology, receiving her Bachelor of Sciences in 1946. While at the U of W, Julia was a sister in Phi Beta Pi and was a leader in her sorority house. Julia was involved in community and civic events on campus and in the metropolitan areas while the war raged in Europe and the Pacific. It was during her freshman year that Julia met the love of her life, Willard "Bud" LeVan. Bud was a fellow Husky and their courtship lasted until the day they were married on July 13, 1946. They celebrated 64 years of happiness this past July.
Their first home was in Yakima, WA. After first child Scott was born in 1948, they moved to the Tri-Cities two years later. Bud became the owner and operator of Mayflower Moving Company. Julia was the bookkeeper until she went to work for General Electric as a Field Chemist from 1952-1954. After Barbara and Sheri were born, Julia began a long and rewarding career as a Social Worker for the Department of Social and Health Services in 1960. She retired in 1983 as a Supervisor of Child Protective Services. Julia spent her time away from work being involved with her children either as a Den Mother, Sunday School teacher, mentor and friend. Family was first for Julia and those who loved her knew that.
Julia was an active member of Church of Our Savior Episcopal in Pasco until they moved to Kennewick in 1956. Julia and Bud then became regular members of St. Paul's Episcopal in Kennewick after St. Georges Episcopal closed its doors. At St. Paul's, Julia was involved in many activities from Prayer Chain to Praise and Worship to Vacation Bible School. She was especially proud of graduating and receiving certification from Education For Ministry (EFM) at St. Paul's. Julia found the fellowship and ministry at St. Paul's was something she treasured. The reflection and understanding of not only the hereafter, but the here and now, brought her closer to the face of God and the beauty that it self brings. Julia and Bud traveled many places before their retirement and continued to after it. The Pacific Ocean held a special place for Julia. Whether it was the golden sands of Hawaii or the rugged shores of Oregon, she found the peaceful serenity of the wave meeting beach remarkable. Life and the changes it brought kept Julia active and involved. Her politics were something she wore on her sleeve and she wasn't afraid to say it. She was a loving daughter, wife, sister, mother and grandmother. Heaven has another angel and we will never forget you. God Bless You JuJu!
Julia was preceded in death by her parents and sister. She is survived by her husband Willard "Bud" LeVan of Kennewick; her son, Scott LeVan and his wife, Jo, of Liberty Lake, WA; her daughter Barbara Wessley and her husband, Rick, of Kennewick; daughter Sheri Harrington and husband Michael of West Richland.
