FARMER KILLED BY LIGHTNING

Meets Death While in Pasture After Cows

Clear Lake—Morris W. Scott, 33, who operated a farm 4 miles northeast of Clear Lake, was killed by lightning while in the middle of his pasture bringing his cows home for milking Sunday night.

The lightning accompanied a heavy downpour of rain, which brought precipitation over North Iowa for the past 4 days to 6.34 inchues at the KGLO transmitter tower in Mason City.

When her husband failed to return, Mrs. Scott called neighbors and a search took place. They found the body in the center of the pasture away from all fences. The body was taken to the Ward funeral home at Clear Lake, where plans for the funeral were being made Monday.

Mr. Scott, besides his wife, is survived by 2 children, Karen, 5, and Douglas, who was observing his 1st birthday the day his father was killed.

Mr. Scott was born Aug. 12, 1913, at Redfield, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Douglas Scott. He attended the schools at Redfield, and later was at Drake university, Des Moines, and the University of Denver.

On Feb. 18, 1939, he was married at Garvin to Maxine Eppard of Redfield. He was a member of the Christian church of Clear Lake. Funeral services were incomplete Monday, but plans are being made to hold them at Redfield.

SCOTT FUNERAL HELD TUESDAY

Further Rites Burial Planned at Redfield

Clear Lake — Funeral services for Morris W. Scott, 33, who died Sunday evening when struck by lightning, were held at the home 3 1/2 miles northeast of Clear Lake Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. The Rev. C. W. Hicks, pastor of the Christian church, conducted the service. Ward's funeral home was in charge.

Mrs. Arleigh Eddy, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Lillian Ross, sang "God's Way." Pallbearers were Bert Lee, Shirley Coe, James Anderson, Robert Shook, Ferd Matson and Eugene Hollad.

Mr. Scott was the only child of Ella Taylor Scott and William Douglas Scott. His mother died in 1930 and his father in 1932 after which he made his home with an aunt, Mrs. Nannie Andrews, at Granger. Following his marriage to Miss Imogene Maxine Eppard Feb. 18, 1939, they moved to the present home near Clear Lake.

Besides his wife and children, Karen Kay and Morris Douglas, he is survived by 2 aunts, 3 uncles, many cousins and numerous friends.

In paying tribute to Mr. Scott, a deacon of the Clear Lake Christian church, the Rev. Mr. Hicks said, "It can truly be said that he was a friend to everyone. His own desires were 2nd if a neighbor or friend had need of him. He always did what he thought was right and never spoke ill of any one. His passing leaves an empty place in the hearts of all who knew him."

Following the service the body was taken to Redfield, former home of the Scotts, where further services and burial will take place Wednesday. The Rev. Mrs. Hurd, Marshalltown, who performed the marriage ceremony for Mr. and Mrs. Scott, will conduct the rites. Her husband, an evangelist, was a former pastor of Mr. Scott.
