Ruf. Scott, once a printers' devil in Richmond and later a freight man on the Chicago road, but for several years a passenger conductor between Des Moines and Council Bluffs, favored us with a call last Friday. Ruf. is the same in prosperity as he was in adversity — a prince of good fellows.

LIGHTNING HITS BURROWS TERRACE

Family of R. I. Scott Interrupted by Bolt While at Dinner.

About 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon dinner at the home of R. I. Scott, in one of the handsome homes at Grand avenue and Kirkwood boulevard, known as Burrows Terrace, was rudely interrupted by a lightning bolt which tore a yawning hole in the roof but did no other damage beyond shocking the dinner party. None of them are feeling any ill effects from the experience, however.

There is an old saying that lightning never strikes twice in the same place, but this is the fifth place it has struck in that neighborhood within a radius of a couple of blocks in the past few years. So say those who have kept a tally on these little incidents.

SUMMER CURTAINS, NEW IDEAS

Close followers of decorative styles admire my reasonably priced art linen, many colored full length curtains. They are washable. And also my linen taffeta draperies for doors, replacing portieres. Surprising how they freshen home interiors. Now being shown at my parlor shop.
