George W. Spencer

George W. Spencer, retired Cleveland policeman, died Wednesday in the Pomerene Hospital, Millersburg. He was 73.

Mr. Spencer, who joined the force 47 years ago, was one of the drivers of Cleveland's "Flying Squad," the first group to patrol the streets in cars.

He spent the last 20 years of his police career on duty in the Terminal Tower guarding against possible trouble among the crowds coming and going daily. His home was at 6820 Pelham Drive, Parma.

Surviving him are his wife, Mary L.; four sons, George W. Jr., Francis B., Robert and Daniel; a daughter, Mrs. Catherine Novak. 14 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. E. G. Lee, Hudson, and a brother, Stanley, Hudson.

Services will be at 10:45 tomorrow morning in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3381 Fulton Road S. W. Friends may call at the Berry funeral home, 7200 Detroit Avenue N. W.
