SALISBURY, Conn. — David L. Stevenson, 64, of Cuddler Lane, chairman of the English department at Hunter College in New York City, and a noted Shakespearean scholar, died at his home yesterday morning.
Born in Escondido, Calif., June 10, 1910, he was the son of Lloyd A. and Nellie Baldridge Stevenson.
Mr. Stevenson taught at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, before joining the faculty at Hunter College in 1963. He was editor of several books on Shakespeare and other literary figures.
Mr. Stevenson had lived here for the past 10 years.
His survivors include his wife, the former Joan Thorsen, and a son, John Stevenson of California.
The Newkirk Funeral Home in Lakeville is in charge of funeral arrangements, which are incomplete.
