Stewards Celebrate Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Steward of River Road, Wheatfield, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in California.

Mr. Steward and the former Ellen Strotman were married Sept. 29, 1927, in Bradford, Pa., and moved to Tonawanda later that year. Mr. Steward worked 35 years for the Niagara Mohawk Power Corp., retiring in 1964.

He is a member of Sutherland Lodge 826, F&AM. Mrs. Steward is a member of Sirius Chapter 301, Order of the Eastern Star. Both are members of First United Methodist Church, North Tonawanda.

They are leaving on an extended trip across the northern states and will arrive in Long Beach, California, where they will celebrate their anniversary with Mr. Steward's brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Steward of Long Beach.

After several weeks in California, they will leave for their home in Hallandale, Fla., where they spend the winter.

STEWARD — Ellen Steward, 76, of 2346 River Rd., Niagara Falls, N.Y., Friday (August 4, 1978) in Community Hospital, Hallandale, Fla. Born in Bradford, Pa., Mrs. Steward had resided in this area 50 years and was co-proprietor of the Steward Motel. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Martha Circle of the church and Sirius Chapter No 301, Order of Eastern Star.

Mrs. Steward is survived by her husband, Roy Steward of Niagara Falls and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 0 p.m. at the Wattengel Funeral Home, Inc., 307 Oliver St., North Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., the Rev. Everett F. Spring officiating. Burial Acacia Park Cemetery. Eastern Star services will be held Tuesday at p.m. at the funeral home.

Roy Steward

CANANDAIGUA — A service of remembrance for Roy Steward, 94, who died Sunday (Nov. 15, 1998) at the Ontario County Health Facility, was held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lucey-VanVoorhis Funeral Home, Inc., 301 West Main St., Victor, with the Rev. Shiela Swanger presiding.s

Burial was in Acacia Park Cemetery in Pendelton.

Mr. Steward was born March 22, 1904 in Little Valley. He and his wife, Mary Ellen, who predeceased him in 1978, lived in the town of Wheatfield for many years.

Mr. Steward retired from Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation in 1964, after 35 years of working as a lineman. He and his wife owned and operated a motel on the Niagara River for a number of years.

After retirement, Mr. Steward lived several winters in Florida and did extensive traveling throughout the United States. He loved bowling, golfing, and horse racing.

After his wife's death, Mr. Steward met Florence Millhausen. They remained close friends, did a lot of traveling, and other retirement activities together.

Mr. Steward was a member of Sutherland Lodge No. 826 Free and Accepted Masons, and the united Brothers of Electrical Workers.

Surviving are four nieces, Lillian Ford, Josephine Walaski, both of Salamanca, Rosine Fleckenstein of East Otto, and Doris Lupica of California; one nephew, Robert Buffum of Springville, several great nieces and nephews; long time friend, Florence Millhausen; and caregivers, Judy and Paul Millhausen and Mary and Mark Ordiway.

The family suggests expressions of sympathy in his memory may be sent to Hopewell Fire Department, Route 5 and 20, Canandaigua 14424.
