Richmond Evening Item, February 2, 1888

Dr. Israel Tennis died at his residence, 27 south 8th street, after a long and painful illness, about 6:30 this morning. Dr. Tennis was very old. Forty years ago he was the leading physician in this part of Wayne county. The funeral takes place from his late residence at 2 p.m., next Friday. The following is the list of pall bearers: Dr. Iutzi, Dr. Dwiggins, Dr. Harrold, Dr. Taylor, Dr. Weist and Dr. Kersey.

Mrs. Mary E. Tennis, relict of Dr. Israel Tennis, died at 10 o'clock tis morning at her home, 29 S 8th street, of senile debility, aged 80 years. Time of funeral announced tomorrow.

The funeral of Mrs. Mary Tennis occurred this morning at 10 o'clock from the residence, No. 37 south 8th street, and there was a large attendance, the deceased having been for many years a resident of this city, and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. The solemn funeral service was conducted by Rev. Mr. Lampert, of the M. E. church, of which she had long been a consistent member. A quartette from the First M.E. choir sang several selections, which added much to the impressiveness of the sad occasion. The pall bearers were Andrew F. Scott, Thomas C. Mitchell, M. C. Pierce, B. F. Harris, J. O Barker, Prof. G. M. Cole.
