James Edgar Deckard, 73, 1021 East Markel street, died at approximately 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Murphy Medical Center where he had been a patient the past three days.
Mr. Deckard was born Aug. 11, 1880 in Monroe county, the son of John and Sarah (Clay) Deckard and and had resided in Warsaw the past 23 years. He was married Apr. 18, 1928 to Edna Melville. A member of the Presbyterian church, he was a cabinet maker by vocation.
Survivors include the wife, two daughters, Mrs. R. L. Wootton of Craig, Colo., Mrs. Robert Arnold, of Fort Wayne, four sisters, Mrs. Jewell Valentine, Warsaw, Mrs. Verl Kissinger, of Woodburn, Mrs. Belva Popham of California, Mrs. Wade Whittenberger, of Colorado, a brother Jesse Deckard, of Lafayette three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The Bibler funeral home is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete today.

Mrs. Edna B. Thompson Deckard, 72, 1021 East Market street, died Saturday at 7:45 p. m. in the McDonald hospital, where she had been a patient for the past five and one-half months.
Mrs. Deckard was a niece of Agnes Pruyn Chapman, founder of the Winona Lake chapter of the Daughters of American Revolutionizing. She was born in Richmond July 22, 1883, to William and Ida (Chapman) Thompson. Mrs. Deckard had been a resident of Warsaw for the past 60 years. She was first married to a Clyde Melville. He died many years ago. She then married James E. Deckard in Plymouth April 28, 1928. He preceded her in death Feb. 21, 1954. Mrs Deckard was a member of the Warsaw Presbyterian church She was also a member of the Agnes Pruyn Chapman chapter of the Daughter of American Revolution, and Circle one of the Presbyterian Women's association.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. R. I. Wootton, Craig., Colo.. and Mrs. Alex Gillander, Kokomo; one brother. Herbert Thompson, of Warsaw; one sister, Mrs. Cliff Ruggles, Plymouth; five nieces, two of whom are Mrs. Rulo Minear and Mrs. Glen Evers of Warsaw; and one nephew.
Funeral services will he held Tuesday at 3 p. m. in the L. J. Bibler and Son funeral home. Rev. Edward C. McCance will officiate, assisted by Rev. A. C. E. Gillander, of Kokomo. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
