DEATH OF CHARLES THURBER

Well Known Olean Man Died at the Hospital at Midnight.

Charles F. Thurber, aged 61 years, died about midnight at the Olean general hospital from ulceration of the stomach, after an illness of only three weeks. Mr. Thurber was taken to the hospital about two weeks ago and although his condition was known to be serious the news of his death will come as a great shock to his many friends in this city, where he has spent the greater part of his life.

Mr. Thurber was born in Painted Post and moved to Olean when quite youn. At the age of 16 he enlisted in Company F, 93rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and fought until mustered out at the close of the war. He was a member of G. D. Bayard Post, G. A. R. Returning to Olean after the war he learned the machinist trade, and later moved to Randolph, where he married Clara M. hall. From Randolph he moved to Delaware, Ohio, and later to Indianapolis, where he remained nine years. For the past twenty-two years he has lived in Olean where he conducted a machine shop for some time, but of late had been employed by the Luther Manufacturing company.

He is survived by his wife; his mother, Mrs. C. B. Thurber, two sisters, Miss Ada Thurber of Olean and Mrs. B. E. Hillman of North East, Pa., and two brothers, Geo. Thurber of Olean and W. E. Thurber of Mexico. His only child was a daughter, Mrs. Charles Harlow, of New York. The funeral arrangements have not yet been made and the announcement of them will appear later.

MRS. CHARLES THURBER DIED TODAY FOLLOWING SIX YEARS' ILLNESS

Had Long Been Active in W. C. T. U. And Church Work Here—Funeral Friday

Mrs. Clara M. Thurber, 65 years old, the widow of the late Charles E. Thurber, passed away this morning at the home of George and Adah Thurber, Washington and Seventh street, where she had been visiting. Death was due to a chronic illness of more than six years' duration.

Mrs. Thurber is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Charles M. Harlow of New York city, with whom for the past few years she had made her home, and by one sister, Mrs. John Haggerty of Dunkirk. She had long been a member of the First M. E. church of this city and was an active worker in the W. C. T. U.

The funeral will be held from the house at 3:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, the Rev. G. R. Williamson officiating, assisted by the Rev. P. H. Lynch. The burial will be in Mt. View cemetery at the convenience of the family.
