MR. AND MRS. R. S. SHERWIN, of Florence, Ala., former St. Louisans, announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Charlotte Esther, and Lieut. Richmard Milton Toon, stationed with the Army Air Forces at Monroe, La. Plans are being made for a January wedding.
Both the bride-elect and her fiance are graduates of Washington University. her sorority was Delta Gamma; his fraternity, Sigma Chi. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Arthur M. Toon, 4239 Shenandoah avenue.

Miss Charlotte Sherwin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph S. Sherwin of Florence, Ala., formerly of St. Louis, became the bride November 2 of Lieut. Richard M. Toon, United States Army Air Corps, stationed in Monroe, La.
The 11 o'clock ceremony took place in the First Presbyterian Church at Sheffield, Ala. The couple were attended by Miss Fern Eilers and Chester P. Schaum Jr., both of St. Louis. Following the wedding a breakfast for the families and a few close friends was served at the Florence Country Club. After a honeymoon spent in Biloxi and New Orleans, the newlyweds will make their home in Monroe.
Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Toon, parents of the bridegroom, and his sister, Miss Marjorie Toon, 4239 Shenandoah avenue, and Mrs. Schaum Jr. left St. Louis to be present at the nuptials.

Richard M. Toon, 70, of 5151 S.W. 42nd St. died of complications from pnuemonia Saturday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Dunn's Funeral Home. The body was cremated.
Mr. Toon was born in Indianapolis, In., and had lived in St. Louis, Mo., before moving to Des Moines in 1947. He had been director of training safety for Master Builders of Iowa. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Sigma Chi fraternity, American Legion, Capitol Masonic Lodge and Reserve Officers of America.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte E.; two daughters, Jacqueline Rugg of St. Louis, Mo., and Marjorie Grafton of Exton, Pa.; a son, Dr. Richard S. of Des Moines; a sister, Marjorie A. Toon of St. Louis, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.
There is no visitation.
