Paul Pence Wisman, Sr., "Pop", 89, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, May 31, 2015. Paul was a man of great accomplishment and integrity, and will be remembered for his great devotion to his wife, Carrie Bowman Wisman "Na" for over 65 years.
Pop and Na met when they were only seven and five years old as they grew up as neighbors. Paul was born November 17, 1925, in Edinburg, Virginia, son of the late Henry Earl Wisman and Marian Neff Wisman. Paul honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His greatest passion's included spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren and also serving as a statistician for the University of Virginia athletic programs for over 58 years. Due to his exemplary service, selfless commitment and extraordinary impact on the Cavalier football program he was awarded the Order of the Crossed Sabres. He enjoyed reading especially about U. S. History and sports. Paul was a hugh St. Louis Cardinals and and would often take his sons and grandsons to St. Louis for ball games.
Paul was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynchburg. He was involved in many philanthropic activities including donations to veteran and children organizations. He also donated countless units of blood to the American Red Cross. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jackie Kluender and husband, Paul. of Lynchburg, Paul Wisman Jr. and wife, Poody, of Charlottesville, Clark Wisman and wife, Putney of Bristol, Joni Pearson and husband, Bruce, of Lynchburg, and Kent Wisman and wife, Lynn, of Richmond; sixteen grandchildren, Matt and Nora, Courtney, Jamie, Joey, Erin, Jack, Liza, Kyle, Justin and Lee Ann, Nick, Carrie, Lauren and David, Charlie, Natalie, Jeri, and Hallie; and three great-grandchildren: Madi, Blaise, and Dakota.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Carly and Berkeley.
The family would like to express their sincere to all the doctors, nurses and other caregivers that have taken loving care of our Pop over the years. A Memorial Service for Paul will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dennis Robers officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please make memorial contributions to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 Langhorne Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24503 or to the Virginia Athletics Foundation, P.O. Box 400833, Charlottesville, VA 22904.
