Paul L. Wood, 82, Town Engineer

Paul L. Wood, 82, of 554 Chapin St., Ludlow, former engineer for that town, died Thursday in Medical Center of Western Massachusetts, Springfield Division.

Formerly of Chiocpee and Springfield, he was born Feb. 1, 1893 and lived in Ludlow 55 years.

He was a World War I Army veteran with the engineering corps and a charter member of American Legion Post 52 of Ludlow.

A self-employed civil engineer and land surveyor, Wood was employed by Ludlow Manufacturing associates as a junior engineer in May 1919.

In 1924, he started his own practice at 32 Chestnut St. In 1965, he was named Ludlow town engineer.

According to his wife, Mrs. Anna Wood, Wood compiled an atlas of Ludlow in 1930 from official research, private plans, and formal surveys. The maps later were purchased by the town and still are being used today.

Wood was a member of the Connecticut Valley Association of Civil Engineers and Land Surveyors Society. He also was a corporator of Ludlow Savings Bank.

Besides his wife, the former Anna WIlliston, he leaves a son, Robert C. of Seminole, Fla.; tow daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth J. Lovett of Ludlow and Mrs. Barbara A. Walker of Edmond, Ok., a brother and 12 grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday at the Byron funeral home, Allen Street, Springfield, with burial in Island Pond Cemetery.

LUDLOW — Anna M. (Williston) Wood, 83, of 554 Chapin St., widow of Paul L. Wood, died Saturday in Baystate Medical Center, Springfield Unit. Born in Springfield, she was a long-time resident of Ludlow. She was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and its Women's Society. She leaves a son, Robert C. of Seminole, Fla.; two daughters, Elizabeth Lovett of Ludlow and Barbara A. Walker of Edmond, Oklahoma; two sisters, Alice and Eunice, both of Wilbraham, and 12 grandchildren. The funeral will be Tuesday morning at Byron's Funeral Home, Allen Street, Springfield, with burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Paul's Methodist Church, 123 Hubbard Ave., Ludlow.
