Gaylord Moreland

Gaylord (Gay) Moreland, 58, of 605 S. McClun, formerly of Ellsworth, was dead on arrival at St. Joseph's Hospital at 6:27 a.m. Friday.

Mr. Moreland, a floor maintenance contractor, was stricken at his home. McLean County Coroner Curtis Gilberts has ordered an autopsy.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Stensel Funeral Home in Le Roy, with burial in Park Hill Cemetery in Bloomington.

Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

He was born Oct. 3, 1911, at Secor, a son or Richard and Carrie Street Moreland. He married Louise Gafney Nov. 14, 1931, at Bloomington.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Lowell, R.R. 2; two daughters, Mrs. Janet Powell, 303 Gregory, Normal; Mrs. Carolyn Klawiter, 1203 E. Jefferson; a sister, Mrs. Brian Rees, Ellsworth; two brothers, Virgil Moreland, Tucson, Ariz.; Kenneth Moreland, Williams Drive, Normal; six grandchildren. His parents, a brother and a grandchild preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Ellsworth Methodist Church, the Louis E. Davis American Legion Post and the Loyal Order of Elks. He was a veteran of World War II.

He lived in Ellsworth until 1949 when he moved to Bloomington.

Louise Moreland

A private inurnment for Louise Moreland, 83, of 1700 N. School St., No. 115, Normal, will be Thursday at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington, the Rev. David P. Dees officiating. There will be no visitation. Kibler-Smith Memorial Home, Bloomington, is handling arrangements.

She died at 9:35 a.m. Friday (Oct. 16, 1998) at her residence.

She was born Sept. 22, 1915, at Mower County, Minn., the daughter of Bennett W. and Louva Marlow Gafney. She married Gaylord Moreland. He died Aug. 31, 1969.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn K. (Owen) Klawitter, 224 Fairway Drive, Bloomington, and Janet (Gordon) Powell, Cherokee Village, Ark.; a sister, Francis Shields, Ellsworth; a daughter-in-law, Ada Moreland, Normal; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A son, Lowell Moreland, preceded her in death.
