Bernice Wickard

MITCHELL — Bernice Wickard, 87, of Mitchell, formerly of Bayard, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at the Mitchell Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2001 at the Bayard Church of Christ with Pastors Ardell Meland and Joson Haselman officiating. Interment will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Minatare. Memorials have been established to the Mitchell Care Center, Prairie Haven Hospice and Platte Valley Bible College. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

Bernice was born October 27, 1913 in Bayard, Neb. to Eugene and Malinda "Linnie" (Waddell) Reynolds. She grew up and attended schools in Bayard and graduated from Lingle High School in 1932. She married Frank "Shorty" Wickard June 9, 1932 in Oshkosh, Neb. They lived in Nebraska until moving to Richmond, Calif. during WWII, where her husband worked in the shipyards. In 1948, they returned to Minatare, Neb. where she lived until her husband's death in 1968. She lived in Bayard until 1996 when she moved to the Mitchell Care Center. Bernice was a member of the Bayard Church of Christ and the Dorcas society of the church, a gold star mother of the American Legion and Royal Neighbors.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Lionel and Delores Wickard of Bayard; daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Ron Hoffman of Mitchell, and Shirley and Charles Young of Montrose, Colo.; grandchildren and their spouses, Vernon and Kris Wickard of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., Gregory and Wendy Wickard of Bridgeport, Mark and Laura Wickard of Bridgeport, Laurie and Larry Janicek of Kimball, Ronda and Ron Reuter of Mitchell, Steve and Carla Hoffman of Morrill, Lanna and Doug Hubbard of Mitchell, Keely and Jon Pederson of Tuscon, Ariz., and Tom and Christy Young of Castle Rock, Colo.; and 24 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank "Shorty" Wickard, five brothers, one sister and great-granddaughter Hanna Wickard.
