Ethel M. Hoover

EAST BERLIN

Ethel M. (Zinn) Hoover, 82, died peacefully at 9:21 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Cross Keys Village at the Brethren Home Community, New Oxford. She was the loving wife of Kenneth W. Hoover to whom she was married for 62 years.

The funeral service for Mrs. Hoover will be held in thanksgiving for her life at 11 a.m. Friday at Zwingli United Church of Christ, 403 W. King St., East Berlin, with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Margaret Wise, officiating. There will be no viewing. Private burial will be in Trinity Roth's Church Cemetery in Jackson Township. Irwin Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Spring Grove is coordinating arrangements.

Ethel was born February 26, 1926, in Jackson Twp., one of nine children of the late Samuel F. and Minerva K. (Myers) Zinn.

Mrs. Hoover devoted her life to homemaking and was a loving wife and mother and a proud grandmother. She was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ in East Berlin.

In addition to her husband, Kenneth, Mrs. Hoover will be sadly missed by her three children, Teresa M. Hoover of Oakland, Calif., Thomas E. Hoover of York, and Jane E. McCleary of Dover; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Mary A. Freed of Hanover, Pauline L. Sauter of East Berlin, Delores J. Witman and Eva R. Ort, both of York; and four brothers, Sterling M. Zinn of Etters, and John M. Zinn and Earl E. Zinn, both of Spring Grove, and Charles E. Zinn of York.

Kenneth W. Hoover, 83, died suddenly on Sunday af ternoon, May 17, 2009, at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Ethel M. (Zinn) Hoover, who preceded him in death on April 22, 2008. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service for Mr. Hoover, to be held in thanksgiving for his life at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zwingli United Church of Christ, 403 W. King St., East Berlin, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Margaret Wise officiating. There will be no viewing. Burial will be private in Trinity Roth's Church Cemetery, Jackson Township. Irwin Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Spring Grove, is coordinating the arrangements. Kenneth was born November 22, 1925 in Jackson Twp., one of six children of the late Earl S. and Amy R. (Wagner) Hoover. He was a self-made man and a farmer in York County. Mr. Hoover was selfemployed for more than 30 years in the building industry as owner of Kenneth W. Hoover, Builder. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Hoover was a charter member of the York County Builders Association. He was a member Zwingli UCC in East Berlin and formerly served as a deacon and elder at Trinity UCC in Spring Grove. Mr. Hoover will be sadly missed by his three children, Teresa M. Hoover and her life partner, Claudia Hartley, of Oakland, Calif., Thomas E. Hoover and his wife, Cheryl of York, and Jane E. McCleary and her husband, Kevin of Dover; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by a faithful companion, his dog, Shultzie. He is survived by a sister, Pearl I. Hoover of West Manchester Twp.; and three brothers, Charles J. Hoover of Thomasville, Earl F. Hoover of York Springs, and James L. Hoover of Thomasville. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean A. Hoover. In lieu of flowers, contributions will be gratefully accepted in his memory to the memorial fund at Zwingli United Church of Christ, 403 W. King St., East Berlin, PA 17316.
