Obituary

Reuben Augustine—the subject of this memoir—was born in Franklin, Stark Co, Ohio April 27, 1835. Came to Missouri in 1840 (?) and was a resident of this state until his death.

He was an old soldier and a member of this G. A. R. His death, which was very sudden, occured on July 31 as he was preparing to attend the reunion where he had anticipated a very pleasant meeting with old comrades. He was converted at about the age of 21 and joined the Methodist Episcopal church of which re remained a member until his death. He was twice married. Was married to Miss Martha A. Beaty, his very bereaved widow, July 18, 1888 at Savanna, Mo.

Has lived near Arnica since about 1891. Everyone who has ever attended religious services at Arnica, or vicinity, has probably often heard and been helped by his earnest and sincere prayers at the openings or close of the service. Whenever opportunity offered, he was always ready to speak of his love for his Saviour, and of his firm resolve to live and die in his service.

He was a man of strong prejudices, honest and honorable to the last degree. He was a good neighbor and friend. His remains were laid to rest in Alder cemetery.

"Naught in the river the saints should appal

Though it frightfully dismal may seem.

In the arms of their Saviour no ill can befall,

They find it no more than a dream."
