A wedding ceremony took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lohry, June 30, when their daughter Marie Ruth became the bride of Otis M. Ballou, son of E. S. Ballou. The marriage lines were read by Rev. W. N. Wallis in the presence of immediate relatives. The bride wore a jacket frock of pink georgette with a tight fitting bodice and long flared skirt, and a yoke of ivory lace. The improvised altar was decorated with pink roses and ferns. Mr. and Mrs. Ballou are taking a motor trip through South Dakota, after which they will be a home near Ashland. Both Mr. and Mrs. Ballou are graduates of Ashland high school and Mrs. Ballou attended Kearney State Teachers college. She has spent the past four years teaching at Yutan and Ashland.

Mrs. Otis M. Ballou, 82, of Ashland died at Lincoln Thursday, March 22.
The funeral was held Saturday morning, March 24, at the First Congregational church, with the Rev. Daphne Resch officiating. Mrs. C. D. Lutton was organist. Pallbearers were Curtis Bromm, Daryl Bromm, David Booth, C. D. Lutton, Robert Wilson, and Carl Anderson. Burial was in Ashland Cemetery.
Marie Ruth Lohry, daughter of Fred H. and Nellie V. Lohry, was born on a farm north of Memphis, Dec., 17, 1911. She attended Kearney State Teachers College, and for several years she taught rural schools near Yutan and north of Ashland.
In 1932 she married Otis M. Ballou and they lived on the farm north of Ashland where Mr. Ballou was born and raised. A daughter and a son were born to them. They lived on the farm for 38 years, retiring and moving to Ashland in 1970.
Mrs. Ballou was an active member of the First Congregational Church and its Women’s Fellowship, and was a member of Chapter BD, P.E.O.
She is survived by her husband; one son, Earl M. Ballou of Omaha; five grandchildren, Michael Ballou of San Antonio, Tex., Douglas Goodfellow of Fort Collins, Colo., Kelley Burdette of Battle Creek, Mich., Darlene Wilson of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Jeanine Ballou of Kansas City; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Nitz of Ashland; one uncle; two nieces; one nephew; and several cousins. Her daughter, Mrs. Jeanine Marie Goodfellow, preceded her in death.
