MARRIED

On Wednesday January 23 at 12 m,. Mr. Emor S. Ballou and Miss Lillie K. Fletcher were united in marriage at the residence of the bride's parents 5 miles north of Ashland, Rev. E. E. Ferris officiating. No one but relatives of the bride and groom were invited. The wedding was a ver pleasant and happy one. The bride was beautifully attired in a dress of light blue with white trimmings. After the ceremony and congratulations a sumptuous dinner was served.

Mr. Ballou is well known in and about Ashland as a young man of sterling character and industrious habits. The bride is also held in high esteem and affection by a large circle of friends.

The young couple will soon begin housekeeping upon a farm about 4 miles north of Ashland. The good wishes of many friends will follow them.

Emor Ballou had an exciting runaway experience Thursday forenoon. He was coming with a team and hog rack from towards the depot on Main street, when the double tree to the wagon broke causing the team to take fright. They turned north on Third street, throwing Mr. Ballou out just as they turned the corner and the heavy wagon ran over him. The team was stopped at the corner of Third and Silver streets, after having run a little over a block. Mr. Ballou was badly bruised, but fortunately escaped serious injury.

Mrs. E. S. Ballou Dies on Easter Sunday Morning

Funeral Services Held Tuesday Afternoon at Congregational Church

Mrs. E. S. Ballou died at her home northwest of this city Easter Sunday April 20, at noon, after a prolonged illness. She was stricken with paralysis on Dec. 16, and for over four months had been helpless, and death came as a welcome release from her suffering. She was forty-eight years and ten months old at the time of her death.

The funeral service was held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, and was attended by a very large number of sorrowing friends who knew her well and lover her. The floral offerings were many and beautiful and bore mute testimony of the deep and loving regard felt for her in the community. The Rev. L. L. Duerson officiated at the service giving the scripture reading and preaching a short sermon.

She was laid to rest in the Ashland cemetery. The pall bearers were Messrs. Henry Jensen, E. M. Kuhl, Omer Hatfield, J. C. Laughlin, Jacob Siemsen and Nelson Vallier.

Mrs. Ballou was essentially a home maker, and in her home, in her neighborhood and with her friends, she was helpful and kind, always doing what she could for the happiness and comfort of others. She was a member of the North Ashland Womans club and was active in all of the work of that organization.

Lilly Katherin Fletcher was born in Montgomery county, Indiana, on June 20th, 1881. She came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Fletcher, to Nebraska in 1892, and since that time has lived in the vicinity of Ashland. On Jan. 23, 1901 she was married to Mr. Emor S. Ballou, to which union were born three children, one of whom, Elizabeth, died in infancy. Mrs. Ballou was a member of the Baptist church, having joined in her youth. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Earl and Otis, and one grandchild. She is also survived by three brothers John, of Mace, Ind.; Benjamin, of Ashland; and Earl of Grant, Nebr.; and one sister, Mrs. Bertha Gallowny of Santa Ana, Calif.

Cooper, Hastings; Mrs. Bert Clark, Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Emor Shepherd, Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Sanders, Marysville, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Harrier, Valley; Miss Elizabeth Haze, Mrs. John South, Miss Lottie Klotz, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Galloway, Wahoo; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Anderson, Omaha; Misses Mona, Martha and Elizabeth Hickey, Gretna.

Emor Smith Ballou, the eldest son of Martin E. and Jessie Bissell Ballou, was born March 16, 1876. In the fall of 1901 he was married to Katherine Fletcher and to this union 3 children were born: Elizabeth, Earl, and Otis. After their marriage they moved to the present farm where they raised their family and where Emor resided until his death.

He was preceded in death by his wife Katherine, one daughter, Elizabeth, and one sister, Mrs. Jessie Swanson.

Mr. Ballou was an outstanding farmer and a great lover of nature. He enjoyed the fellowship of his friends, and the grandchildren filled an exceptionally large part of his life.

He is survived by sons Earl B. of Fairfield, Iowa, Otis M. of Ashland, four grandchildren, two brothers, James E. and Otis M., both of Ashland, and two sisters, Elizabeth Fenton and Sue Cummer of Pomona, California.

Services were conducted by Rev. Walter E. Neth at the Marcy Chapel Friday afternoon, Nov. 26 at 3:30 P.M. Burial was made in Ashland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Clifford Coup, Vern Stewart, Ralph Yocum, Louis Deleski, Edward Scheuneman, and William McIlffeney.

Elizabeth C. Ballou

Elizabeth Caroline, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emor Ballou of North Ashland, died late yesterday afternoon at the home of her parents. She was born September 4, 1902 and was aged 5 years and 10 months. The little one had been a sufferer for nine weeks with consumption of the bowels. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of their host of friends in their affliction.

As we go to press the arrangements have not been completed for the funeral services.
