Children of FRANCES ISABELLE EVERETT and FREDERICK HALL BEALS:
Otsego Farmer, October 22, 19154153
Many friends in Otsego county will learn with regret of the death of Prof. Frederick H. Beals of Newark, N. J., at an early hour Sunday morning after a brief illness. Mr. Beals was born at Mt. Vision and later graduated from the Oneont State Normal school and both as a boy and as a young man he had high ideals—and thanks to appreciative parents, early became a thorough student and possessed of aspirations to serve mankind.
Mr. Beals was a son of the late Edward E. and Mary Hall Beals and grew up on his father's farm at Mt. Vision. He prepared for Normal school under the instruction of his father—who taught in rural schools of Otsego county for many years. He graduated from the Oneonta Normal school in 1895 and began teaching in the school at St. James, Long Island. After one year of service as a teacher, he wished to prepare for higher work and he entered Harvard college, from which he received the degree of A. B. in 1900, being one of the "honor men" of his class. After graduation, he taught two years in Worcester Academy at Worcester, Mass., and then returned to Harvard long enough to earn his A. M. degree.
In 1903, he became a teacher in the Harvard School of Los Angeles, California, and remained until he was called to the chair of Physics in Occidental college, Los Angeles, which position he filled with marked success for three years. Desiring to locate nearer to New York, and his large circle of friends, he accepted a position in the Plainfield High school in 1909 and remained there until elected to the position in Barringer which he held at the time of his death. Upon his removal from Plainfield, Mr. Beals was the recipient of many substantial marks of esteem from the members of the faculty and the students of the High school. The Plainfield Courier-News said, "Mr. Beals is probably as dear to both faculty and pupils of the school as any instructor who has ever taught in this city, and his loss is keenly felt and regretted by all."
