Since the publication of the historical paper read by Mrs. Lora Etta Butler, of Lewisville, before the Henry County Society, I have heard of one more tavern which was conducted in Knightstown by Mr. Harvey Bell at his residence on the east side of Adams street, and one-half block south of the main street of the town. Circumstances connected are that after the Dillon House burned down, an event which occurred prior to the Civil War, three young men who had been boarders at that hostelry, came to Mr. Bell with their trunks and insistesd that he take them in and provide for them. This he did, and concluding that he might as well go into the business right, he put up a sign, "Mansion House," and became a real landlord. The first three guests, mentioned above, were C. D. Morgan, Tilghman Fish and Sol. Hittle. Mr. Fish afterwards married one of Mr. Bell's daughters. Mrs. W. M. Edwards, also a daughter of Mr. Bell, recounts that once a circus company stopped there and were bedded down on the floor of the main room. She, a mere child, was sent into the room to procure a andle, and in doing so was obliged to step over the sleepers, which she did safely though with fear and trembling.
