Howard Bements Mark Silver Anniversary With Open House

One hundred 10 relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bement, south of the city, Sunday afternoon and evening to help them celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.

Miss Edna Bement, student at Yankton college, and Fred Bement modeled their parents wedding clothes for the occasion. Another daughter, Betty, a student at the seminary of the University of Chicago, was unable to attend.

Lunch was served by the neighbors of the honored couple. The table was decorated with silver candelabra and a wedding cake. Their niece, Mrs. Nelson, and Mrs. H. D. Jacobson presided at the coffee table.

Howard Bement

Howard Bement, 91, Good Samaritan Village, died Friday in Sioux Valley Hospital.

Mr. Bement was born March 31, 1895, in rural Sioux Falls. He attended Sioux Falls Academy and worked as a dairy farmer. He married Irma Jacobson Feb. 24, 1926, in Lincoln County. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1975 and has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Village. He was founder and organizer of the Sioux Valley Milk Producers Association, in which he served as a director; he also was a member of the First Congregational Church, where he served on several committees. Mr. and Mrs. Bement celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last February.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Fred, Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Betty) Eis, Maquoketa, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Committtal servcies will begin at 10:45 a.m. Monday in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorial services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the First Congregational Church.

Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. today in Miller Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to receive friends.

The family request that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the First Congregational Church or the Good Samaritan Village.

Irma Bement

Irma Bement, 86, 3901 S. Marion Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Sioux Valley Hospital.

Irma Jacobson was born Dec. 20, 1904, in Sloan, Iowa, and graduated from Harrisburg High School. On Feb. 24, 1926, she married Howard Bement in Lincoln County. They lived on a farm south of Sioux Falls for several years before moving to Sioux Falls in 1975.

She taught Sunday School and attended state and national meetings for First Congregational Church. She also belonged to Garden Club and Extension Club.

Her husband died May 9, 1986.

Survivors include one son, Fred, Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Betty) Eis, Bonaparte, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, H .D. Jacobson, Sioux Falls.

Memorial services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday in First Congregational Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery before the services.

Visitation begins at 8 a.m. today in Miller Funeral Home. The family will be in the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.

Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church of Good Samaritan Village.

MAXINE ROSE BEMENT

Maxine Rose Bement, 4-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Bement, who reside south of the city, died at a local hospital of pneumonia. Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Miller Funeral Home with Dr. Wendell Fifield, pastor of the First Congregational church officiating. Burial will be made at Woodlawn cemetery.
