New Freedom—Miss Lois Jean McClain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerry I. McClain, New Freedom R. D., and Maynard L. Berwager, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Berwager, Stewartstown R. D., were married in a candlelight ceremony Saturday at 7:30 o'clock in the evening in Sadlers Union church.
The single ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Henry Springer, pastor of the Lutheran congregation.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her brother, Cecil McClain, wore a white satin gown with fitted bodice and sweetheart neckline, fashioned with long sleeves ending in points over the wrists. The full skirt ended in a train, and a fingertip veil fell from a coronet of orange blossoms.
The bride's only jewelry was a single strand of pearls. She carried an arm bouquet of white rosebuds and sweet peas.
The maid of honor, Miss Jeanne Shirey, cousin of the bride, wore a blue gown with taffeta bodice and a full net skirt. Her headdress was a halo of blue rosettes with a shoulder length veil, and she carried an arm bouquet of mixed spring flowers.
The bridesmaids were Miss Loretty Shirey, cousin of the bride, and Miss Alice Mellinger, a friend. Miss Shirey wore a pink gown with taffeta bodice and full net skirt with applique. Miss Mellinger also wore pink, fashioned similarly. THeir headdresses were pink, and they carried spring flowers.
The best man was Leonard Berwager, Stewartstown, brother of the bridegroom. Ushers were Fay Peters, York and Donald Wright, Stewartstown.
The mother of the bride and bridegroom wore navy blue dresses with matching accessories and corsages of mixed flowers.
Mrs. Marion McClain, aunt of the bride, pianist, and Mrs. Pauline Ruby, York, the bride's cousin, soloist, gave a thirty-minute recital. Mrs. McClain's numbers: "Romance" (Rubenstein); "To A Wild Rose" (MacDowell) and "O Promis Me" (DeKoven). She played the "Bridal Chorus" from "Lohengrin" (Wagner) as the processional and "Wedding March" from "A Mid-Summer Night's Dream," Mendelssohn, for the recessional.
Mrs. Ruby sang "At Dawning" (Cadman): "Because" (d'Haradelot) and "I Love You Truly" (Bond).
The church was decorated with palms, piink gladioli and candelabra.
A reception was held following the ceremony in the social room of the church for the wedding party, relatives and friends of the couple.
The bride's gifts to her maid of honor and bridesmaids were compacts and to the pianist and solist handbags. The bridegroom gave tie clasps to his attendants.
The bride is employed at the M and R Garment company, New Freedom. Mr. Berwager was discharged recently after service in the Pacific area.
After the ceremony they left for a wedding trip through the southern states.
