MISS LOIS JANE BYERLY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rue Byerly, of Yorktown, and Richard Allen Bowers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reid Bowers, of Cowan, were united in marriage at 8 o'clock last evening in a simply arranged ceremony, solemnized at the home of the Rev. A. L. Stamper in Springport. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Stamper in the presence of the immediate families and a few intimate friends.
The bride was lovely in a navy blue silk crepe dress, the bodice of which was of dusty rose crepe trimmed with a small high navy blue collar. Her short puffed sleeves were shirred at the shoulder, and a row of tiny covered buttons extended from the neckline to the waist of the dress in back. The front of the bodice was adorned with silk embroidered flowers, and the skirt flared from the fitted waist and hipline. With this she wore black patent leather sandals, powder blue gloves and carried a black patent purse. Her hat was a navy blue straw model trimmed with a navy veil and powder blue ornament, and her flowers were a shoulder corsage of gardenias.
Miss Marjorie Miller of Yorktown, who attended the bride as maid of honor, was attired in a two-piece navy blue crepe dress trimmed in blue checked silk taffeta. With this she wore navy blue accessories and a shoulder corsage of Tea roses.
The bride was given in marriage by her father, and attending the bridegroom was Ernest Kern of Oakville, as best man.
Mrs. Byerly, mother of the bride, wore a navy blue and white polka dotted dress of silk crepe over which was wore a short jacket with white lapels and three-quarter length sleeves Her shoes, hat and purse were of navy blue, and she wore white kid gloves and a shoulder corsage of sweetpeas.
The bridegroom's mother, Mrs. Bowers, was dressed in a royal blue silk crepe frock with an all-over motif of tiny rose-colored flowers. the neckline of the dress was made low V-shaped and her sleeves were short and puffed. With this she wore navy blue accessories and a shoulder corsage of sweetpeas.
The wedding supper in honor of the newly-wed couple will be held this evening at the home of the bride's parents. A color scheme of yellow and white will be carried out effectively in the decorations and table appointments. Centering the long dining table will be a large silver wedding ring adorned with a miniature bride and bridegroom and lilies of the valley. Tall yellow tapers in crystal holders will furnish illumination. Guests to attend with Mr. and Mrs. Bowers will include: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Boomer of Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Reid Bowers, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Bowers, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Miller and Mr. and Mrs. George Miller.
The bride was graduated from Yorktown High School in 1938 and is employed in the business office of The Star Publishing Company. Mr. Bowers was a member of the 1936 graduating class at Cowan High School and attended General Motors Technical School at Fling, Mich. He was a member of the Gil-Gad fraternity and is now employed at the Delco-Remy. The young couple will reside in Yorktown.

MUNCIE - Richard Bowers, 87, Muncie, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at Ball Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 6, 1918 to Reid and Ethel Bowers in Monroe Township and was a life-long resident of Delaware County.
Mr. Bowers graduated from Cowan High School in 1936 and attended General Motors Institute in Detroit, MI. He was a lifelong hunting and fishing enthusiast. He retired in 1980 as Tool and Die Repair Shop Supervisor of Warner Gear (now Borg Warner) after 36 years of employment. He then operated in the field of sewing machine repair for 25 years. He was a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge 229 New Burlington in Muncie and belonged to the Elks Lodge 245. He was a member of Cowan Christian Church.
Mr. Bowers is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lois (Byerly) Bowers; four children, Susan Clevenger of Yorktown, Sally Butler (husband Jim) of Muncie, Steve Bowers (wife Elaine) of Anderson, and Barbara Sanders (husband Joel) of Coral Springs, FL; nephew, Scott Bowers; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edgar Bowers; and grandson, Larry Clevenger.
Services will be 1pm Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home at 4600 W. Kilgore Ave. with Rev. Robert Kellems officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery.
Friends may call from 12pm to 1pm Saturday prior to services at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.

YORKTOWN - Lois Jane (Byerly) Bowers, age 85, Patriot Drive, Yorktown, passed away on October 2, 2006 at Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Born October 4, 1920 in Yorktown, Indiana to Rue and Veola Byerly and was a life-long resident of Delaware County.
Mrs. Bowers graduated from Yorktown High School in 1938. She married Richard Bowers on April 8, 1939. Lois was a lifelong cooking, sewing, and quilting enthusiast and had been employed at The Sewing Room in Muncie. She was a member of Cowan Christian Church and had been active in the CCC Ladies Aid Fall Bazaar and other church functions.
Mrs. Bowers is survived by her children: Susan Clevenger, Yorktown; Sally Butler (husband Jim) Muncie; Steve Bowers (wife Elaine) Anderson, and Barbara Sanders (husband Joel) Coral Springs, Florida; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years on December 7, 2005, parents: Rue and Veola (Miller) Byerly, and grandson Larry Clevenger.
Reverend Robert Kellams will conduct a memorial service at Cowan Christian Church on Thursday October 5, 2006 at 2:00 p.m.
