A funeral service for Dr. George William Tull of Grand Junction will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Colorado Springs with Dr. Shoemaker officiating.
Burial will be Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Mortuary.
Dr. Tull died of natural causes Oct. 8 in Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 72.
Dr. Tull was an optometrist who practiced in Pueblo, Colorado Springs and Grand Junction. He was a Grand Junction resident since 1985.
He was born April 26, 1922, to John Z. and Edna F. Frost Tull in Wray. He spent his childhood in Wray and Victor and attended school in Victor. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and earned his degree in optometry from the Northern College of Optometry in Chicago.
He married Esther Boyce. She survives.
Dr. Tull started his practice in 1950 in Pueblo and moved to Colorado Springs in 1960, setting up a solo practice in 1964. He specialized in fitting contact lenses and set up his own manufacturing lab for his patients and those of other optometrists in Colorado. After he retired in 1982, he became associated with Dr. Warren Broderson of Grand Junction and established a manufacturing lab in Grand Junction.
Dr. Tull was elected a diplomate, or certified specialist, for his expertise in contact lenses and at the time was one of seven diplomates in the United States. He was the Colorado Optometrist of the Year in 1972.
He was president of the Colorado Optometric Association for three consecutive years. He also was a 32nd degree Mason and was twice president of the Al Kaly Shrine. Dr. Tull also served as president of the Centennial Sertoma Club in Colorado Springs and as president of the Grand Mesa Sertoma Club in Grand Junction.
He played the saxophone in the Centennial Band and played in the Shrine Band. He also enjoyed fishing.
Other survivors include a son, Dr. George W. Jr,; two daughters, Joyce Simpleman of Grand Junction, and Susan Castellani of Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Neb., and six grandchildren, Rob and Rochelle Simpleman, Tony and Christina Castellani, and Jessica and Anna Tull.
A daughter, Sharon, is deceased.

Esther Evelyn Boyce was born October 31, 1917 in Fort Morgan, Colorado to Archie and Elise Boyce. Most of Esther's childhood was spent in Fountain, Colorado. She graduated from Fountain High School in 1936. She was awarded a scholarship to "Success Business School" in Denver. Esther married Leonard Lender in 1941. They had two girls; Sharon (Steve) McCarthy and Joyce (Bob) Simpleman. Sharon died in 1970. This marriage ended in divorce in 1952.
Esther married George W. Tull in 1960. Esther adopted his two children: George Tull and Janice Susan Castellani. Esther worked as a secretary at Lincoln Elementary School, School Administration District 11 and in the optometric office of George Tull. She was very involved in La Cuesta Senior Parks Bible study.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara (Sam) McGuire, her brother, Dale (Barbara) Boyce, three children, Joyce (Bob) Simpleman, George (Emily) Tull, Janice Susan (Mark) Castellani, and seven grandchildren: Rob Simpleman, Rochelle (Tim) Arvizo, tony Castellani, Christina Castellani, Jessica Tull, Anna Tull, and John Tull.
Esther was preceded in death by both of her parents, three brothers, Robert, Archie, Jr., and Donald; two sisters, Maxine and Marjorie, and a daughter, Sharon.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 23, 2005 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., in the Memorial Gardens Chapel. Funeral will take place at Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Thursday, February 24, at 10:30 a.m. The funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Tom Neff. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak Hospice, Suite 600, Colorado Springs, CO 80903-3624.
