Loader Operator Crushed to Death

Gerald D. Buell, 34, of 501 Louisiana avenue, was crushed to death Tuesday forenoon in the cab of the Pettibone front-end loader he was operating at the city sand pit, when the machine tipped sideways over a 15-foot bank.

Buell was employed by J. Neils Lumber company. The cause of the accident, which happened at approximately 10:30 a.m., had not been determined at press time. Other workers at the sand pit could not tell just what happened to cause the loader to overturn.

Gerald Buell served three and a half years with the navy in World War II, attaining the rank of aviation machinist's mate 2nd class. He started to work for Neils in the spring of 1949.

Survivors include his widow, Elizabeth; two daughters, Diana Kay and Mary Kathleen, and a son, Gerald Dean II.

Funeral services will be held at the Gompf Funeral home at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon (tomorrow).
