Wilmington, Nov. 24.—Of much interest to a large circle of friends throughout the state was the announcement of the approaching marriage of Miss Adelaide Caldwell, daughter of Mrs. Adelaide Williams Caldwell, of Charlotte, to Charles Ormonde Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ormonde Butler, of Wilmington.
The marriage will take place in New York city on Saturday, December 1, at 5:30 o'clock, in the presence of only the two families and a few intimate friends.
Miss Caldwell is one of the most popular members of the younger social set of Charlotte, and is well and popularly known in Wilmington having visited in this city and on Wrightsville Beach on several occasions.
Mr. Butler is prominent in business and social circles, having graduated at the Agricultural and Engineering college at Raleigh, and a mechanical engineer with quite a wide range of experience.

The following account of the wedding on Saturday afternoon in New York City of Miss Adelaide Pearson Caldwell, of Charlotte, to Mr. Charles Butler, of Waycross, Ga., is taken from the Charlotte Observer of Dec. 2. Mrs Butler is one of North Carolina's most talented and accomplished young women combining marked intellectual ability with a most delightful and pleasing personality—The Observer says:
Of the deepest interest to a wide circle of friends throughout the state will be the announcement of the marriage of Miss Adelaide Pearson Caldwell of this city, and Charles Ormonde Butler, of Wilmington, and Waycross, Ga., which took place on Saturday afternoon, December 1, at 5-30 o'clock at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel, New York City, Rev. William Pierson Merrill, D. D., pastor of the Brick Presbyterian church on Fifth avenue, officiating.
There were no attendants and only relatives of the bride and bridegroom and a few intimate friends were present for the simple ceremony of the Presbyterian church, which was used.
Mr. and Mrs. Butler will spend a week in New York, after which they will go to Jacksonville, Fla., motoring from there to Waycross, Ga., where they will make their home.
Mrs. Butler is a daughter of the late Joseph Pearson Calwill, half owner and editor of the Charlotte Observer for a number of years, and of Mrs. Addie White Williams Caldwell, widely-known newspaper woman and editor of the Observer's one-minute page, both of prominent old families of distinction, Scotch-Irish descent. She attended Mary Baldwin seminary at Staunton, Va., and since that time has been a widely-admired and beloved member of Charlotte society while efficiently serving for two years on the Charlotte News and for the past eight months on The Observer in the capacity of society editor.
Mr. Butler is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Butler, of Wilmington, formerly of Virginia. He graduated with high honors in mechanical engineering from the North Carolina state college at Raleigh, afterward taking post graduate work at Columbia university, New York City. He served in France for two years during the world war with the aviation corps. Mr. Butler is a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. At present he is efficiency expert at the Atlantic Coast Line Railway shops at Waycross, Ga.
Miss Butler left with her mother and her kinswoman, Miss Susie Hutchinson, two weeks ago for New York, where the party has been guests at the Waldorf-Astoria. Mrs. Caldwell is epxected to return to the city tomorrow.

Mrs. Adelaide Caldwell Butler, of Waycross, Ga., daughter of the late Mrs. Addie Williams Caldwell, newspaperwoman of this city, will receive practically the entire estate of the deceased, according to the will which was probated at the Mecklenburg county court house Monday afternoon.
The estate is estimated to be worth $50,000.
Francis O. Clarkson and Charles F. Dalton were named executors of the will.
By the terms of the will if her daughter should die without heirs she bequeathed $5,000 to the Alexander Home of this city and $5,000 to the trustees of the Barium Springs orphanage, of Iredell county. The remainder of the estate should be disposed of in such a way as Mrs. Butler should see fit.
Personal property of Mrs. Caldwell was will to Mrs. Butler with the exception of a set of pearls, formerly the property of Mrs. Caldwell's mother, which was bequeathed to her granddaughter, Adelaide Butler, to be received by her upon her twenty-first birthday.
Real property, including a valuable lot on South Tryon street, was willed to Mrs. Butler to be used during her life and to become the property of her children upon death.
Mrs. Butler was the only child of Mrs. Caldwell.

Mrs. Charles O. Butler, formerly of this city and until recently of Fitzgerald, Ga., is staying with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W. James Maxwell. Lieutenant Colonel Butler was called back into service, United States Army, in July and is in Korea.

NEWPORT NEWS,Va. — Funeral services for Mrs. Adelaide Caldwell Butler who died here Friday will be held Sunday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. She was a daughter of the late Dr. Joseph P. Caldwell, co-founder and editor of The Charlotte News and the Charlotte Observer.
She and her husband, Col. Charles O. Butler, lived in Florence, S. C. from 1946-52 when he was superintendent of the ACL Railroad.
Among survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Jack D. (Pinky) O'Neal of Williamsburg, Va., and two grandchildren, Charles and William (Bill) Maxwell, who live in Florence.

WILLIAMSBURG — Col. Charles O. Butler (USA-ret.), 79, died Friday in a Williamsburg hospital aftera long illness.
A native of Wilmington, N.C., he had been a Peninsula resident since 1952.
He was an engineering graduate of North Carolina State University and a veteran of World War I, World War II and Korea.
He retired from active duty in 1956 and from the Transportation Engineering Agency, Ft. Eustis, in 1967.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Adelaide B. O'Neal of Williamsburg; four grandchildren and on great-granchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. today in Peninsula Memorial Park by Dr. Cotesworth P. Lewis of Burton Parish Church.
