Mrs. C. M. Butler entertained yesterday afternoon from 5 to 6 o'clock at her residence, No. 223 South Fifth street, complimentary to her daughter, Mrs. H. Kidd, of Vancouver, B. C., who is here on a visit. She was assisted in receiving by her daughter, Miss Marie Butler. The home was beautifully decorated with Autumn leaves and carnations. Delicious refreshments were served in the dining room. Those serving were Mrs. Warren G. Elliott and Mrs. Edmund l. Prince, assisted by several young ladies. It was a most delightful occasion and a large number were present to enjoy the splendid hospitality of the hostess and to meet Mrs. Kidd.

Charlotte friends of Mr. Charles O. Butler, formerly of Wilmington, but now of Waycross, Ga., will hear with regret of the death of his mother, Mrs. Edith C. Butler, which occurred Tuesday at her home in Wilmington. Mrs. Butler has been a sufferer for several years. She was widely beloved in Wilmington. She is a member of an old and prominent family, and was a woman of rare beauty of character and charm.
Besides her husband, Mr. C. M. Butler, who is officially connected with the Coast line, she is survived by two children, a daughter, Mrs. H. F. Kydd, of Vancouver, B. C. and a son, Charles O. Butler, of Wilmington and Waycross, who married Miss Adelaide Caldwell, of Charlotte.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon. Interment in Wilmington.

Funeral services for Charles M. Butler, 79, president of the Carolina Building and Loan association and former fuel agent of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad company, will be conducted this afternoon at 5 o'clock at the residence, 1808 Market Street.
Officiating ministers will be the Rev. Alexander Miller and the Rev. Thomas P. Noe. Burial will follow in Oakdale cemetery.
Mr. Butler died Sunday night at 8 o'clock at his residence after a short illness. He retired from the railroad two years ago after 46 years of service.
Surviving are one son, Maj. Charles O. Butler, U. S. Army, and one daughter, Mrs. Edith Kydd, of Vancouver, British Columbia.
