FRANK HARRIS, PIONEER, DIES AT HALSTEAD

Funeral Services to Be Held Friday at First Christian Church

Was One of Those Who Made the Run in 1891 and Kept Homestead

Frank Harris, pioneer and homesteader of this locality and influential citizen of the Council Valley community, died at 3:35 Wednesday at Halstead, Kansas, following an operation.

Harris entered the hospital there September 20th. He had been in failing health for the past two years. He was given three blood transfusions but they failed to bring the desired result.

Funeral services are to be held Friday at 2:30 o'clock at the First Christian Church. The Reverend Shelvy Anglemyer, pastor, will conduct the service. Burial will be made on the family lot at the New Zion cemetery. The H. A. Davis ambulance brought the body from Halstead to Cushing and it will lie in state here until the hour of the funeral.

Born in Illinois

Born in Illinois, August 25th, 1868, Harris was 69 years, 1 month and 4 days of age. He moved with his parents to Missouri and later to Elgin, Kansas. In 1891, at the time of the opening of the Sac and Fox land here, he came to Cushing and homesteaded the farm upon which he was living at the time of he death. He has been very successful, owning a number of farms in this locality.

Surviving the deceased are his wife, Mrs. Mabel Harris, two sons, Clarence and Lloyd, Yale, Route 1; one daughter, Mrs. Ben Powers, fourteen grandchildren, two great-grand-children and one brother, Wilbur Harris, Cushing. There are also a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Harris has been active in the various affairs of his community and will be greatly missed. His advice and counsel has been used by many.
