Mrs. Ben Powers Dies on Tuesday at Council Valley

Funeral Thursday For Long-Time Resident of Cushing Area

Mrs. Bessie Powers, 53, wife of Ben Powers, died at her home in the Council Valley community north of Cushing at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon following a short illness.

She was born December 28, 1895 four miles north of Cushing and was the daughter of the late Frank Harris. She was married to Ben Powers May 12, 1915 and the couple moved to a farm in the Council Valley community where she resided until her death.

She was a member of the Council Valley Advent Christian Church.

Thursday Services

The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the First Christian Church. Rev. Carroll Fairbanks, pastor will conduct the services, assisted by Rev. Lawrence Ryan, pastor of the Council Valley Advent Christian Church.

Relatives who survive are her husband, Ben Powers of the home, four sons, Kenneth and Harold Powers of the Council Valley community, Clifford Powers of Perry, Ben Jack Powers of Roswell, N. mexico. Four daughters, Mrs. Helen Austin of Bartlesville,, Mrs. Alta Dooley of Council Valley community, Mrs. Elsie Thomas of the Norfolk community, Mrs. Opal Barton of Cushing, two brothers, Loyd Harris and Clarence Harris of the Council Valley community, a stepmother, Mrs. Mable Harris of Cushing, 15 grandchildren and other relatives.

The burial under direction of the H.A. Davis Funeral home will be made in the New Zion cemetery.

Ben Powers dies services Monday

Ben Powers, 64, a retired farmer of Yale died Friday in the Cushing hospital following a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a.m. in the First Christian church. The Rev. Ivan Young, pastor of the Advent Christian church at Council Valley, conducted the services assisted by the Rev. Lawrence V. Ryan.

Burial was under the direction of the Davis Funeral home with burial in the New Zion cemetery on the family lot.

Powers was born at Winfield, Kan. in 1893 and came to Cushing in 1911. He was married to Bessie Harris in 1915 and she preceded him in death in 1949. He was married to Parthenia Garrett in 1953. He united with the Christian Advent church early in life.

Relatives who survive are his wife of the home, four sons, four daughters, and one brother and 24 grandchildren.
