Untimely Death For Mrs. Davison

YOUNG MOTHER LEAVES SIX CHILDREN; ILLNESS OF SHORT DURATION

Mrs. Harlan Davison passed away Monday following a ten-day illness. The community was grieved on October 27 to hear that Mrs. Davison was critically ill and had been taken to the St. Francis hospital at Maryville for treatment. From the first little or no hope was entertained for her recovery. And while every thing regarding medical aid and care was done for her, the life, though young in years and full of hope for the future, was not strong enough to bring her back to health and at 2:20 p. m. Monday, Nov. 4, she passed away.

Hilda, as she was known to her many friends, was a friendly girl, always eager to do her part in affairs which would benefit her family and others in her community. She was devoted to her home and family.

She graduated from the Hopkins High School in the spring of 1930.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Hopkins Methodist church conducted by the pastor, J. Vernon Wheeler.

Mrs. Wren Peve, as soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Edward Turner, sang three selections.

Burial was in the Hopkins Cemetery.

Hilda Elizabeth Mendenhall, eldest daughter of Elza and Kate Sheley Mendenhall was born in Taylor County, Iowa, August 22, 1912 and following a brief illness, passed away in the St. Francis hospital, Maryville, Missouri, November 4, 1946 at the age of 34 years, 2 months and 13 days.

She was united in marriage to Harlan R. Davison on September 7, 1936 and to this union six children were born, namely, Richard, Kenneth, Jackie, Sharon, Sue and Larry. In addition to her husband and her children she is survived by her parents and the following sisters and brothers: Forest Mendenhall of Hopkins, Mrs. Eustatia Cumberlin of Bedford, Iowa, Elza Mendenhall and Helen Mendenhall of Hopkins. She is also mourned by a host of relatives and friends, including her mother-in-law who wrote the following lines:

Weep not for me, since I have gone,

But laugh instead.

I've only crossed to the other shore,

Just follow on, —there's room for more.

So dray your tears and laugh instead.
