SOUTH HAVEN — Lawrence E. Ditch, 81, of 829 Superior, South Haven, died Wednesday at Countryside Nursing Home, South Haven.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church, South Haven. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Calvin, Starks & Frost Chapel, South Haven. Memorials may be made to the church.
Mr. Ditch was born July 14, 1904, in Oakes, N.D. He was retired from Canonie Construction, South Haven, where he was employed for 16 years. He was a former city treasurer. Survivors include: his wife, the former Helen Englesby, whom he married Aug. 18, 1929; two sons — Robert of Baltimore, Md., and Keith of Holland; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers — Leo of Oakes, N.D., and Paul of South Haven. A daughter, Beverly Ditch, preceded him in death in 1934.

SOUTH HAVEN — Helen Carol Ditch, 96, of South Haen, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at the Resthaven Care Center in Holland.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the First Congregational Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Dick officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church or to the Resthaven Care Center.
Helen was born June 28, 1905, in Watertown, S.D., to Henry and Emma (Houston) Englesby. She married Lawrence E. Ditch on Aug. 18, 1929, in Watertown. Helen worked as a legal secretary for a South Haven attorney, Randolph Monroe, for several years, was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Scot Club of South Haven and she enjoyed gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, in 1986; an infant daughter, Beverly Ann Ditch; her parents, three brothers — Frank, Howard and Ralph Englesby; and a sister, Gertrude Spelman.
Helen is survived by her two sons — Robert H. (Dian) Ditch of Portage, Mich. and Keith (Barb) Ditch of Holland; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
