Randolph Register, November 22, 19187455
Our village has again been saddened by the passing of another of its highly respected and much loved residents, Mrs. Marian Hall whose death occurred Thursday evening at the home of her sisters, Mrs. Amy Milks and Miss Blanche Thoma in Hall street. While Mrs. Hall had been in failing health for some time, suffering from a heart malady, her final sickness was of only a week's duration, pneumonia being the immediate cause of death.
Marian Thoma Hall was the daughter of Dominicus and Mary Thoma and was born in the town of Randolph in what is known as the Sample Hill district, August 7th, 1843, and with her parents removed to this place in 1857. In January 1868 she was united in marriage with Erastus Hall of East Randolph. To this union two sons were born, Irving A. now of Olean and Artel of Buffalo. Mr. Hall died about 35 years ago. Besides the sons and sisters above mentioned deceased is survived by a sister, Mrs. Jennie Barber, of Elkins, W. Va., seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Miss Agnes Thoma died several years ago.
Upon the recent removal to Olean of the family of her son, I. A. Hall, with whom she resided, she arranged to remain during the winter with her sisters here.
Mrs. Hall was a woman of rare personality, her quiet manner and the sweet spirit which she always manifested won the confidence and esteem of all with whom she came in contact. It may well be said of her "to know her was to love her."
Because of failing eyesight Mrs. Hall was forced to relinquish many of the active duties of life, yet she continued to move among her friends and neighbors ministering good to all. Her presence in the sickroom brought comfort and cheer to many a suffering one and she was always a welcome guest. Nothing pleased her so much as to have an opportunity to help someone. She was not affiliated with any church organization but often expressed her faith and trust in a kind Heavenly Father and lived out the teachings of the Golden Rule. She was for many years a member of Fern Leaf Rebeka Lodge.
The funeral was held from the home of her sisters Saturday afternoon, Rev. H. H. Clare, pastor of the M. E. church officiating and was attended by a large concourse of friends who gathered to pay respect to one whom they had known and loved. Interment was made beside her husband in the East Randolph cemetery.
Among those who attended the obsequies were: Mr. and Mrs. I. A. Hall and daughters Velma and Viola and son Worden of Olean; Mr. and Mrs. Artel Hall, Frank Hall and Mrs. Luella Helmes of Buffalo; Mrs. Mary Mulbey, Mrs. Grace Herrick, Miss Ione Weiss and Mrs. Mattie Cunningham of Cattaraugus.
