BEFORE KANSAS WAS A STATE

Mrs. Anna Houston Came to Kansas in 1854

Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Houston, whose death occurred yesterday afternoon at twelve thirty, at the home of her sister, Mrs. L. E. Parsons, 524 South Ninth street, is one of the oldest residents of the state of Kansas, having come here in the year 1854, seven years before Kansas became a state. She has lived in Salina for years, coming here from Manhattan where she had made her home previously.

At the time of her death, Mrs. Houston was seventy-three years of age. Death was due to an attack of acute indigestion, and she leaves the following brothers and sisters. Mrs. Katherine Parsons, Salina, two half brothers, one at Enid, Okla. and one at Harvard University and two half sisters. Funeral services, which will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock from the home, will be in charge of Dr. Edward Hislop, pastor of the First Methodist church.
