Dr. and Mrs. Minor Franklin Sewell announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Virginia Houston, to Cadet Carl Helmstetter, jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Helmstetter of Dermott, Ark.
The marriage will be solemnized in the afternoon, May 31, at the Second Presbyterian church and a reception will follow at the home of the bride's parents.
Miss Houston attended the University of Kansas and belongs to Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Cadet Helmstetter will be graduated from the United States Military academy at West Point, N. Y., May 29.

Lieut. Carl Helmstetter, Jr., 23 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Helmstetter, Durmont, Ark., was killed in an airplane crash yesterday at Moore Field, Mission, Tex.
Lieutenant Helmstetter and his wife, the former Miss Virginia Houston, niece of Dr. and Mrs. Minor Franklin Sewell, 5613 Lydia avenue, were married in Kansas City in May, after his graduation from the United States Military academy.
Lieutenant Helmstetter received his wings last Sunday.

Virginia Houston Helmstetter, 76, died unexpectedly in her sleep on August 29, 1998, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, September 3, at Second Presbyterian Church, 55th and Oak, Kansas City, MO. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Second Presbyterian Church or your favorite charity.
Virginia was a lifelong resident of Kansas City. She was registrar at Pembroke Hill School for over 30 years. She attended the University of Kansas, where she became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and the Junior League of Kansas City, MO. She leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Lauren Helmstetter, Prairie Village, KS: her four grandchildren, Houston Helmstetter, John Helmstetter, Rob Helmstetter and Annesley Helmstetter; her niece and nephew, Ginny and Paul Mohr; her sister-in-law, Ferol Houston; her nephews, Larry and Greg Houston; and her sister, Mary Ann Mull. Virginia is remembered by her family and friends as a tolerant and loving person who always put others before herself.
