The many friends of Lloyd H. Irvine will be surprised to learn of his marriage on the 20th of this month to Miss Dee Louise Ross, instructor in English in the Government school at the convalescent camp, at Prescott, Ariz. The wedding took place in the Methodist Church of Prescott.
Mr. Irvine, who has made his home in Coquille for the past ten years, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Irvine, who reside on Sherwood Heights. When the war came he made repeated efforts to enlist in the Aviation or Marine Corps but without success because of his eye. He finally passed into Government service, through the Benson Polytechnic school of Portland. He was assigned to H. Q. Co. 76th Inf. stationed at Camp Lewis. While there he had a severe attack of 'flu'. Hospital facilities and medical attention were inadequate to support the needs of the great numbers who had to be cared for, and after some days it was found that a large quantity of fluid had formed on his lungs, forcing the diaphragm up, dislocating one of his kidneys and crowding his heart over to the right and constricting his lungs. He received his discharge in Feb. 1919. After a short visit with his parents, the war risk insurance board found that he had developed tuberculosis, and ordered him to report to the government hospital at Palo Alto, Cal. Later he was removed to the convalescent camp at Prescott, Arizona. He is now pronounced entirely cured. While studying English at the government school at Prescott, he became so interested in the subject that he decided to marry his teacher and take a post graduate course.
Miss Ross, whose home is in West Va., has been in the government employ for several years. They are now spending their honeymoon camping in the mountains. They expect to visit her parents in West Va., before returning here, after which Mr. Irvine is to take a three years course in logging engineering, supplied by the government at O. A. C. They are expected here in September. Mr. Irvine is survived by one of his old pals, Harry Tozier, of this city.
