Was a Unique Wedding

An interesting wedding took place in this city Saturday evening, January 12, at 8 o'clock when Miss Berna Irvine, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Irvine, was united in marriage to Mr. William A. Kiper, of Portland, Oregon. The ceremony was performed by Rev. S. G. Rogers, pastor of the Methodist church, interpreted in the sign language by Mrs. Arthur Graham, the bride and groom both being deaf and dumb, in the presence of immediate relatives and a few friends.

The wedding day had been set at a later date, but on account of the brother of the bride, Mr. Lloyd Irvine, of Powers, having enlisted with expectation of soon being called to service, it was determined to have the wedding at once.

The couple were the recipients of many handsome and useful gifts. A number of the ladies of the Royal Neighbor lodge, of which Miss Berna has been a faithful member for the past two years, gathered at the Irvine home Wednesday evening as a surprise for the bridal pair, each bringing some pretty gift. After congratulations and a short time spent pleasantly in conversation the ladies departed.

Miss Irvine has made her home in this city with her parents for the past few years and by her bright and cheerful manner has made many friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Kiper left Thursday morning of last week for Portland where Mr. Kiper is employed and where they will make their future home, followed by the best wishes of their many friends.

Passing of Mrs. Berna Kiper

R. H. Irvine received the sad news last Sunday that his daughter, Mrs. Berna Kiper, had died the day before at Kanorado, Kans. Mr. and Mrs. Kiper left Portland for Kanorado last November, intending to take charge of the ranch belonging to Mr. Kiper's father. Mrs. Kiper had suffered a severe sick spell last summer in Portland, but she recovered and it was only recently that the family had word of her serious illness. Mrs. Irvine was to have started east Monday morning but after receiving the message gave up the trip.
