LINCOLN PARK — George H. Kiick of Lincoln Park died Thursday at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains. He was 84.
Born in Hanover, Pa., he lived in Lincoln Park for 54 years.
Mr. Kiick graduated from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., with a bachelor's degree. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers and played fullback until he was drafted into the Army during World War II. He served as a lieutenant in the 2nd Armor Division. While serving in Europe he was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.
At the end of the war he returned to play for the Steelers. After retiring from football, he taught and coached at Butler High School in Butler for five years. Later he had a position with Rheingold Brewery for 20 years, retiring in 1970.
Mr. Kiick was a member of Lincoln Park American Legion Post 279 and the Ephrata, Pa., Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Alice (Lohr); two sons, Jim and Bill; two brothers, Bill and John; and five grandchildren, Brandon, Dallas, Evan, Austin, and Alexandra.
Visitation is Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at Keri Memorial Funeral Home, 125 Main St., Lincoln Park, with a service at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chilton Hospital Foundation or Lincoln Park First Aid Squad.
