John C. Kiick, of Hanover, and Miss Carrie R. Stambaugh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stambaugh, were married at the home of the bride, Saturday evening, February 1st, by Rev. F. O. Sternat, of the Lutheran church, Abbottstown.

John C. Kiick

Ephrata

John C. Kiick Sr., 90, of 139 N. State St., died Monday at 7:05 p.m. in the Ephrata Nursing Home after a six week illness.

Born in Hanover, he was the son of the late Elizabeth and Calvin Kiick. He was the husband of Carrie R. Stambaugh Kiick. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on Feb. 2, 1976.

Kiick was a resident of Ephrata for the past 57 years. He retired 18 years ago from Consolidated Cigar Company, Lancaster, where he was employed as a superintendent. He had worked there for about 30 years. Prior to that he was employed by the General Cigar Company.

Kiick is the grandfather of Jim Kiick, football star of the Denver Broncos who played on two Super Bowl champion teams with the Miami Dolphins.

Surviving in addition to his widow are three sons and a daughter: John Jr., Leola; George, Lincoln Park, N.J.; William, Ephrata; A. Elizabeth, wife of Rudolph Claudy, Ephrata; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a sister and a brother, Louise Allwood, Gettysburg, and Lawrence A. Kiick, Boyertown.

Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. from the Dano Funeral Home, Ephrata. The Rev. David E. Ebersole will officiate. Interment will follow in the Lincoln Cemetery.

Carrie R. Kiick, grandmother of football star

Carrie Romaine Kiick, 94, of Conestoga View, 900 E. King St., and formerly of Ephrata, died Saturday morning at the nursing home after a brief illness.

She was the grandmother of former Miami Dolphins' star running back Jim Kiick.

Born in Abbottstown, Adams County, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Carrie R. Stambaugh, and the wife of the late John C. Kiick Sr. She was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving are three sons, John C. Kiick Jr., Loala; William Kiick, Doraville, Ga., and George Kiick, Lincoln Park, N.J., who at one time played for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

She is also survived by four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren.
