Laird—Stambaugh

James Roderic Laird, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Laird, Wellsville R. 2, and Miss Ethel Ruth Stambaugh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Stambaugh, Dover R. 1, were married Saturday evening by the Rev. Wilfred A. Brown, pastor of the First Pentecostal church, at his residence in York. Mr. and Mrs. Laird will make their home with the bride's parents.

DOVER Ethel R. (Stambaugh) Laird, 97, entered into rest at 4:43 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2013, at Rest Haven-York. She was the wife of the late James "Jim" R. Laird. Ethel was born April 8, 1916, in Jackson Township, a daughter of the late Harvey C. and Naomi (Ruth) Stambaugh. She was a homemaker who attended Calvary Baptist Church. She was a former member of Harmony Grove Community Church where she enjoyed quilting with her fellow church ladies. Ethel is survived by two daughters, Janet Wiley and Marian N. Zeiler, both of York; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William H. Laird; a great-grandson; and two brothers, Luther F. and Roman C. Stambaugh. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Ethel's funeral at 2 p.m. and the viewing from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013 at Emig Funeral Home, 47 N. Queen St., Dover. Burial will follow in Paradise Holtzschwamm Union Cemetery, Thomasville. Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Greg Wahlberg. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 2740 Roosevelt Avenue, York, PA 17408.
